Last year, Javo U.S.A. installed a Javo Direct potting machine at Bianchi-Davis Greenhouses on Long Island, NY. Bianchi-Davis is a grower of Phalaenopsis in 15cm (6”) clay pots in pure sphagnum.
The owners of Bianchi-Davis were so pleased with the Javo Direct potting machine, and especially with the capability of working with pure sphagnum, that they came back to Javo again for more automation for their expansion.
This year, Javo U.S.A. installed two (2) Javo pot handling Robots which work in combination with the Javo Direct.
An interesting aspect of the combination of the clay pots and the pure sphagnum is that the roots of the Phalaenopsis do not grow outside of the pots.
After being planted on the Javo Direct potting machine, the Javo Placing Robots put the pots in the containers (Logiqs system) in rows of 9 and in staggered formation. Since the roots do not grow outside of the pots the Javo Pick-up Robot has no problem picking up the pots and placing them on the conveyor belt. Because of the stability of the clay pots plant carriers are not necessary.
On the next conveyor belt, the bamboo stakes are put in the pots and the spikes are clamped to them with clips. The placing robot then places the pots back in the same 9/9 configuration. This process repeats one more time for cutting the stakes to the proper height and adding more clips.
Mr. Mark Davis, co-owner of Bianchi-Davis, is very happy with his Javo automation and kindly provided us with the photograph.
